How to Fit a Kitchen Sink

By Martin Hart on Fri 06 March 2020

Fitting a kitchen sink is one of the most important jobs when it comes to creating a kitchen worth its weight in gold (Or silver. Or bronze. Or whatever colour scheme that’s been employed). After all, a kitchen without a sink is about as much use as a home without a roof. But just how do you go about fitting a kitchen sink?

Firstly, you’ll want to get your tools at the ready. For the job, you’ll need:

·         Pencil

·         Hammer

·         Drill

·         Pipe cutter

·         Wrench

·         Silicone sealant

Out with the Old

The first step, if it’s in place, is to remove the old sink. Firstly, turn off the water supply and disconnect the sink. Once that’s done, you should be able to either cut it away if you’re fitting new plumbing or simply leave it as is, if you’re fitting the new sink to the existing pipes. Either way, at this point, you’ll be able to loosen all the fixing and remove the old sink.

In with the New

The next step is to mark out where the new sink will go on the new worktop, and cut a hole in the worktop if required. Then it’s a case of assembling the taps as per the instruction manual. Once that’s done, slide the taps and pipes through the inlets in the sink.

Place the sink and taps into the hole you cut, and fix the sink in place using clips that come with the product. Use silicone sealant to ensure that there’s no gaps around the fitting. Tighten up the fittings from below – but don’t over-tighten them.

You should then be able to join the water pipes and trap together, and affix them to the sink bowl. Now you’ll be able to connect the hot and cold water pipes to the taps, as well as ensuring that the overflow pipe is fitted to the sink’s overflow pipe.

Finally, turn on the water supply at the mains and test. If there are leaks, you’ll be able to see where they are and – after turning the water off again – tighten up the connections where leaks occur. Once you’re satisfied that it’s all sorted, give the sink’s connections one last tighten and you’re away.

Of course, for the best results, you’ll want quality kitchen equipment that you can count on. Contact the team here at Hart Wholesale and we’ll be delighted to assist in ensuring that the kitchen you’re working on will dazzle your customers.
