There are many reasons to have a door yet recently we've come to realise that these reasons seem to be taken for granted. Not wanting to ignore our favorite household feature, we've taken a look at exactly why we love doors so much!
Here at Blum we just can't get enough of doors. They're everywhere! Doors you walk through, doors on cabinets and doors on cupboards. We think we take them for granted a little too much, after all, you can't walk down the street without passing some kind of door, or step into a kitchen without having to open a cupboard to get some food. How do doors work, and why do we love them so much?
Good question (somebody's got to ask it). We reckon it hinges on... hinges. Our Blum hinges offer a range of designs to suit every purpose a door could possibly have. What kind of purposes are those, you ask? Well, we're about to tell you.
Security
First and foremost, when you think of a door, you think of the front of your house. That all important door keeping unwanted strangers out of your home. It's used as a safety blanket, one that will protect you when you need it the most. Knowing that you're door isn't going to fall off its hinges when you open it is also an added bonus, it's only attached to the door frame by those very important hinges when opened, after all.
Privacy
Keeping in line with the notion of security, doors also double as a means of granting you some privacy. We use them for the bathroom and the bedroom to stop people from walking in when you least expect them. It also means that your family have the privacy of relaxing, out of the public eye, 'behind closed doors'.
Containment
The door for your wardrobe isn't just used to stick photos and stickers all over; it's also used as a handy containment facility. Quickly tidying up your room, you need to put your belonging somewhere, don't you? If you don't have a lot of storage space, this may mean that you only have one cupboard in your house where you store all of your towels, games, toys, clothes and so on. We're sure you've all experienced, at some time in your life, the thrilling workout of keeping all of your belongings inside the wardrobe with one hand, whilst quickly shutting the door with the other. Again, it's nice to know that the hinges to your doors aren't going to suddenly pop off with the amount of pressure they're subjected to.
Tidiness
Keep it clean! Doors on cupboards and shelving units make a room look neater and tidier. They give off a sense of organisation and level-headedness you may not otherwise gain from simply shelves, displaying everything you have, and making your room look cluttered.
Preserving Goods
Many houses have the beloved pantry: that one area of your home where you can store your perishable goods, your tins and your biscuits, your potatoes and your rice. The last thing you want is to leave the ingredients of your future casserole to become infested with flies or open to the elements of your busy kitchen. Welcome to the world of a good door. It was discovered generations ago that covering your food prevented flies from laying their eggs on your meats and breads, barring their way further with a sturdy door prevents the worst of the bugs, animals and sticky fingers from grabbing your food.
