The finishing touches are amongst those details you should never overlook, independently of what you're doing. So why should bathrooms be any different? Taps can elevate the bathroom's design, so it's important that you choose them with the overall look in mind.
So take time to choose taps that can complement the style of the bathroom and be delighted at the results. If the room has straight lines, a curved set of taps will look disparate. One of the tricks to choose a great tap is to match curves with curves and angles with angles.
So keep in mind that taps come in different forms:
Pillar Taps
These taps are often found in more traditional-looking bathrooms, and they usually come in pairs - one tap for cold water and another for hot. They're not very expensive and are operated by handles or levers. They also require two holes in the basin, so that should be taken into consideration upon purchasing them.
Monobloc Taps
A single lever controls both hot and cold water with these taps. They complement minimalist styles really well and are an excellent space-saver. The one thing to be careful with these taps, however, is the water pressure, because they usually only work if the pressure in both hot and cold controls is equal (or almost equal).
Mixer Taps
They're very similar to monobloc taps, but they deliver a mixture of hot and cold through a single gush, so they have two separate water controls. The pressure should always be checked before purchasing these kinds of taps, since they need high levels to work properly. They usually have a contemporary look, so they fit well in modern-looking bathrooms.
Choosing the Finish
After choosing the style of the tap, don't forget to select the finish. Chrome is everyone's shiny favourite, but needs more effort to keep clean. Brass and copper are also popular choices, because they give off a warm look that complements country or Victorian themes really well. You can also opt for a matte or satin finish, which are easier to maintain than chrome and offer a sleek and modern look to the bathroom.
Some modern taps fit in very well with traditional bathroom styles too, so much so that this blend is an emerging trend. The intention is to blur the line between contemporary and traditional design, offering a ‘new age' look to the bathroom. So, if you're feeling bold, why settle for a matching look?
