Fitting a bath into place isn’t a difficult project to undertake. Being both thorough and methodical ensures the end result is the one you want. Following this handy guide step by step will allow you to easily fit a bath.
Step 1: Fitting the Taps
Before installing the bath, you need to carefully stand it up vertically so that you can easily access it to fit in the pipework. Start by fitting the taps with either a rubber washer or a fibre washer, depending on the taps’ material. Feed the pipes through the holes with the washers forming a seal to ensure the taps are securely fitted.
Step 2: Fitting the Waste Pipe
The waste pipe needs to be fitted pointing towards the back of the bath and towards the taps, with the washer properly fitted. The plughole should follow, carefully attached to the inside of the bath and screwed into place. Afterwards, ensuring the plug is secure, you can let go of the washer and proceed to tighten the plug with a screwdriver. It needs to be centralised so that it does not move from its place, and not over tightened to ensure no component breaks.
Step 3: Attaching the Overflow
The bath’s overflow is composed of three parts that work together. A plastic part is placed on the outside and a metal one on the inside of the bath. The two must meet and be tightened by hand first, and subsequently with a screwdriver to properly fix it to place. The flexi-pipe is the last component to be fitted, attaching the overflow to the waste pipe located at the bottom of the bath.
Step 4: Connecting
Maintaining the bath’s upright position, adding the tap connectors will ensure that they are not only adequately fixed in place, but also easier to connect. Pick up an adjustable spanner, and make sure that the tap connectors are in the right position before you tighten them.
Step 5: Fitting the Bath
The last step is to fit the bath into place. With the rubber washer in its correct position, ensure that it’s lined up with the trap before tightening it by hand. Ensure that the threads aren’t crossed to avoid potential future leaks. With the bath in place, level it by beginning with one of the legs and levelling it with another. Continue this process by levelling the second leg with the other two, and making adjustments by tightening or loosening the bath’s feet’s threads to ensure the bath is levelled.
